Omgubuntu news points out, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS will adopt orange tint as a whole. While the move hasn’t been finalized, and the relevant code hasn’t appeared in daily Ubuntu 22.04 builds, many people have noticed the possible change.

Previously, the Ubuntu community-based design team was instructed to remove purple from the Yaru GTK theme because the color was being removed from the Ubuntu palette. While this “depurification” task didn’t end up in Ubuntu 21.10 , it did happen on 22.04.

This means that throughout the Yaru GTK theme and accompanying icon set, purple will be fully replaced with orange. Here’s what’s going on in the latest development version of the Yaru GTK theme provided by contributor Frederik Feichtmeier:

It was revealed that one motivation for changing the purple to orange was to introduce libadwaita ( a GTK4 port of libhandy ). On the face of it, its arrival will limit Ubuntu to a single dominant color, orange, rather than the current jumble of colors.

Yaru GTK themes, Yaru GNOME Shell themes, purple in GDM themes, and even purple in Yaru icons are affected by orange:

Users who are not used to this color scheme should not worry too much. Even if this change scheme is finally determined, they can also choose to manually configure other types; for example, Ubuntu comes with the regular Adwaita GTK theme.
