Mac users beware! Expose the latest MacOS system upgrade may lead to 'bricking'

Recently, Apple released the official version update of macOS Monterey 12.3, which brings new functions to the general control of the system.

But according to MacRumors reports, this update has a more serious bug.

It is reported that when a Mac that has had a logic board replaced tries to update from macOS 12.2.1 or earlier to macOS 12.3, although it can start normally, it will prompt that the upgrade failed and an iBoot Panic notification will pop up.

If the user tries to upgrade again, the system will remind that the iBoot FW is damaged and needs to be repaired when restarting.

When users download 12.2.1 IPSW and use Apple Configurator 2 to load the recovery image for repair, they will face two possibilities. In one case, although the Mac can be restarted, it still cannot be updated, and the iBoot Panic notification will pop up again.

In another case, the repaired Mac is completely “bricked” and can no longer be booted or repaired.

MacRumors speculates that this situation is caused by a firmware bug in macOS 12.3, but Apple has not responded to the issue and has not pushed a fix.
