How to Erase Current macOS System Data from Mac

1. Erase data (Recovery Assistant)

M1 Mac: Press and hold the power key until “Loading startup items” appears, select Options, and then click Continue.

Select “Terminal” in the top utility, type “resetpassword” and press Enter. Click the Reset Password window to bring it to the front, then choose Recovery Assistant, Erase Mac from the menu bar. Once done, the Mac will automatically restart. 2. Erase data (Disk Utility)

intel Mac: Press and hold Command and R immediately after powering on until you see the Apple logo or other image; M1 Mac: Press and hold the power button until “Loading startup items” appears on the screen. Then select Options, then click Continue.

From the utilities window, select Disk Utility, then click Continue.

In the “Built-in” section of the Disk Utility sidebar, find the volume named “Macintosh HD”. Select “Macintosh HD”, click “Erase” in the upper right toolbar, then change the name to “Macintosh HD”, format “APFS” and click “Erase Volume Group” (if not, click “Erase” ”). It will restart automatically after erasing the data.
